The Cabinet has approved the exemption of customs fees for transit goods for seven types of trucks, ranging from 300 to 500 baht
The Cabinet has approved the draft ministerial regulation exempting customs service fees for transit under Section 102 of the Customs Act B.E. 2560 on July 9, 2024. The exemption aims to enhance logistics management efficiency and support trade and investment both domestically and regionally.
Details of the Customs Fee Exemption
The fee exemption covers seven types of freight trucks as follows
- Pickup trucks (previous fee: 300 THB/unit)
- Cargo vans (previous fee: 300 THB/unit)
- Trucks (previous fee: 300 THB/unit)
- Trailers (previous fee: 500 THB/unit)
- Semi-trailers (previous fee: 500 THB/unit)
- Long-material semi-trailers (previous fee: 500 THB/unit)
- Tow trucks (previous fee: 500 THB/unit)
Fee Collection Report
The Ministry of Finance, through the Customs Department, has reported the collection of customs service fees related to transit operations for the fiscal years 2022-2024 as follows:
- Fiscal Year 2022: 64 million baht
- Fiscal Year 2023: 68 million baht
- Fiscal Year 2024: 41 million baht
- Total: 175 million baht
This fee exemption will result in a loss of revenue for the government in this area but is expected to stimulate trade and investment in the long term. The draft ministerial regulation will be sent to the Office of the Council of State for review before it is officially enforced. Operators and stakeholders should closely monitor progress to prepare for this change.
The exemption of customs fees for transit goods is another key measure that will enhance Thailand’s logistics competitiveness and support its role as a regional trade hub in ASEAN.
